Ah man, there’s so much going on right now! Not only are we going skiing in 2 days but we are getting things together for Elevation as well. So much to do, so little time!
So have you made plans to join us for Elevation?
Hopefully you have and hopefully you sign up soon because the deadline for a shirt being included within your Elevation cost ($30) is Monday, February 1st. You can still sign up and pay after this date, but you will have to purchase a tshirt separately for $8 and it is not guaranteed that there will be enough to go around, so get your shirt size and money to Maeghan soon! Here’s a sneak peek of what the shirt looks like. Don’t tell anyone I showed you though!
And while we’re getting ready for Elevation, LYNC will be having Spirit Nights at Chik-fil-A where youth ministers and maybe a secretary or two from around Owensboro will be serving drinks, delivering orders, taking out trash, being ultra-friendly hospitalitizers, and whatever else Chik-fil-A wants us to do. And I have a feeling it’s going to be super fun! But the cool part about these Spirit Nights is that if you purchase a meal and give them an Elevation Postcard, LYNC will get 10% of your meal purchase to go toward Elevation! So not only will you be getting delicious ‘chikin’, you will be giving to an event to help our area youth grow closer to Christ! I’d say that’s definitely worth going to Chik-fil-A multiple times between 5:00 and 7:00pm on February 1st, 4th, 8th, and 11th and telling everyone you know about this fundraiser. Especially on the 8th because Ross and Maeghan will be serving. Feel free to purchase meals for strangers

January 5, 2010
So it’s been a while, but we’ve got a busy month and some ahead of us so it’s time for an update! We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and sorry that it didn’t last longer :) But fear not for we have fun things coming up such as our Perfect North Ski Trip and Elevation!
Perfect North will be January 30th and will be the bomb.com (that's what that picture to the left is...a bomb...). Detailed information and necessary forms can be found on the coming events page so be sure to check that out. I was informed earlier today that the Perfect North waiver was actually something about 2 Timothy so if you tried to download it before January 6th, you should be able to download the actual form now. Perfect North looks like an absolute blast and a little birdie told me that everyone who is going to ski will get to tube as well. I’ve never tubed on snow, but I’ve got a feeling it’s awesome so I hope you get to join us! It’s $60 total with a $30 deposit due as soon possible. The deposit is to reserve your spot and there is a limited amount of seating available so you better get your deposit in! And lastly, dress warmly. Jeans and a sweatshirt probably won’t cut it, so bust out those embarrassing long underwear and your cute/manly beanies and gloves. And ChapStick. You will thank me later.
And Elevation is coming up too, everyone! It has been under works for quite some time now and it is going to best Grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat! Check out the flyer available on the Coming Events page. Someone really cool made it :) Shane and Shane and Far From Ordinary (drama group) will be on Friday night and Saturday night will be local worship band Fire For Freedom. This year, instead of having seminars, each church will be doing their own form of DNow. More details on that as it nears, but be thinking about whether you are coming or not because it will be here sooner than you think!
So that’s about it. Watch out for the snow that’s supposed to be headed our way and keep warm! Let’s hope the electricity stays on and that we don’t have a repeat of last year’s ice storm. We may need to break out those ski outfits early :) God Bless you all! (Check out Beth's artsy ice storm '09 photo----->)

November 3, 2009
Last Friday, October 30th, FBC hosted about 70 Owensborians for LYNC's 5th Quarter four square dodgeball event and it was a blast. Not only did we get to play lots of dodgeball, Ross, our interim here at First, brought a great message and Fire for Freedom, a local worship band, led worship with the students. It was a great opportunity for churches from the area to mingle with other youth from other churches. Some of the churches present were Hall Street, Third Baptist, First Baptist, Macedonia, Lewis Lane, Our Lady of the Lourdes, and Island Baptist (sorry if I missed anyone!). Check out all of our pictures in the photo gallery! Yes, I finally took pictures :)
Hearts of Fire, our high school trip to Gatlinburg, is coming up soon, so if you're wanting to go, let us know! There is limited space available. For those that have paid the deposit, the final payment ($30) is due November 18th. If you have any questions, send either Ross or Maeghan an e-mail (RWellman@fbcowb.org or MGarrett@fbcowb.org). Hope you will be joining us for this wonderful weekend!

October 13, 2009
Hopefully you received our Fall Calendar in the mail a few weeks ago, but if not, below is a copy for your viewing pleasure :)
We are are moving right along through Fall! Can you believe it's already the middle of October? I definitely thought it was about the 7th today until I looked at my phone and realized it was the 13th. I know...I'm a bit behind. It's just gone by so fast! But we still have a little time so let's make the most of it!
What do we have coming up, you say? What a fantastic question. I'm glad you asked, since it was definitely not me posing the question and forcing the answer upon you...
In the coming weeks, we have the Core Bible Study (October 15th and November 12th), 5th Quarter (October 30th), and Hearts On Fire (November 19-21). The Core, in fact, is THIS WEEK! This Thursday! It will meet Thursday at 6:00 in the Chat Room. It's going to be a great opportunity to dig into God's word and ask the difficult questions that will help you go out and speak God's truth to those around you. We hope you can make it!
Our big order of business is the 5th Quarter event on October 30th. It originally began as a fellowship for First Baptist youth but has blossomed into something more: a city-wide 5th Quarter! Churches from all over Daviess County are going to be coming to the CLC after their school's football game to fellowship and play
FOUR SQUARE DODGEBALL!!!
That's right. You've probably never heard of it and neither have we. But we're gonna play it! And it's gonna be fun! 5th Quarter will last from 9:00pm to 12:00am and will be a blast, so make sure to put it on your calendar now and keep that night open. You won't want to miss it! Also, because snacks are vital to a good FBC fellowshipping experience, we ask the girls bring either cookies or chips and that the guys bring 2-liters. YUM! And even though this video is from dodgeball years past, I believe it deserves a second look. Check out this stunning display of skill from our very own interim, Ross Wellman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDiNHAODSt4
Lastly, our trip to Gatlinburg for Hearts on Fire is quickly approaching! We will leave Thursday, November 19th and get back Saturday, November 21st. Students will be missing one day of school, so they must retrieve and return an Educational Enrichment/EHO Form to their respective schools. Check in your school's office for this form. We'll have more information for you as the weekend nears, so keep checking the website!
Have the best week and hope to see you at church tomorrow night!

October 5, 2009
I don't know what you did this weekend, but the middle school students were out having a great time at Camp Schafer on our Middle School Retreat! We had a great time playing games, dancing during worship, learning about heroes from the Bible, and scavenging for random sticks to use as we burnt our marshmallows :) Here's a snapshot of what we did:
- Uno, Apples to Apples, and Four Square
- Worshiped with Campbellsville University students (Ross's brother-in-law and friends)
- Learned about Elijah and Baal (1 Kings 18-17-40) and faith (Hebrews 11)
- Made s'mores by a wonderfully warm fire
- And finally played UNDERGROUND CHURCH! They were overjoyed. We played 4 times :)
Sadly we have no pictures because a certain ministry assistant forgot her camera...sorry :(
BUT! We had a wonderful time learning about God's story while out in His creation. Schafer is a great place to get away and focus on our relationship with the Lord. And the middle school students absorbed every bit of what Ross spoke on like sponges. God is really growing these students and giving them an interest to learn about Him. Let's encourage them in this important time in their lives.
Thanks for reading and hopefully there will be pictures in the next one!

September 28, 2009
We hope you were able to join us this past Wednesday for See You at the Pole activities, but if you weren't, here are some brief highlights of the day. Early in the morning, students from all over the nation gathered around their flagpoles to pray for their school, community, and nation. All across Owensboro, students arrived at school early to take part in SYATP. The theme this year was Engage and called students 'engage' their surroundings for the cause of Christ. Students held hands around their school's flagpole doing just that: publicly declaring their belief in God, praying for their school, and inviting others from their school to come and pray as well.
That evening, LYNC Ministries, a group of youth ministers from Daviess County and the surrounding counties, organized a SYATP Rally at Macedonia Baptist Church in Owensboro. First Baptist Church Student Ministry and many other local student ministries traveled to Macedonia to be a part of the Rally. We sang worship songs, prayed for fellow students, our schools, and community, and learned about the SYATP 2009's theme scripture:
"Go and inquire of the Lord for me and for the people and for all Judah
about what is written in this book and has been found..." 2 Kings 22:13a (NIV).
Joe Ball, Youth Strategist for the Kentucky Baptist Convention, spoke about the above scripture and how it was a call for us to earnestly pray for God's guidance and to dig into His word. He spoke of how we should be quicker to consult scripture and get our spiritual nourishment from God's word, not just worship music and Christian books, though these things are good. Read the scriptures and pray for God to speak to you through them. Seek to know more about God everyday by reading His word and praying for those around you and throughout the nation. SYTAP is a call to prayer. Let's not hold our prayers for this one day, but let us pray and let God into our everyday lives and situations.
